We currently have a Senior/Lead Technical Policy Accountant opening located in either Madison, WI or Cedar Rapids, IA. This position may be filled at the Senior Accountant or Lead Accountant level depending on candidate qualifications. In this new position, you will lead the technical accounting research activities to support new strategic developments and manage the development and coordination of accounting policy and implementation of new accounting standards across the company.

Job Responsibilities :
Ensures the company complies with applicable accounting standards by serving as a key US GAAP technical research resource. Performs technical accounting research activities, formulates and prepares position papers, provides training and presents to others on technical accounting activities.
Manages and leads projects related to the adoption and timely implementation of new accounting pronouncements across all areas of the company in compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory standards. Keeps abreast of all current accounting standards initiatives, keeps the organization informed of such activities as necessary, and drafts comments on behalf of the company to regulatory bodies.
Serves as a liaison for related accounting and financial activities and projects as well as for various Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and regulatory filing requirements, including research of rules, laws and regulations and peer reviews.
As a key technical accounting research resource, establishes and monitors corporate accounting policies and their compliance with relevant authoritative accounting guidance. Responsible for ensuring policies are accurate, current and documented in a centrally located repository.
Leads accounting-related, qualitative and quantitative analysis of projects associated with potential acquisitions, investments and other proposed transactions that require review by executive management and/or the Board of Directors. Provides associated consulting services to operating units as required.
Keeps members of the management team fully informed of the status of the projects assigned, as well as relevant accounting-related issues that may arise from such projects.
Acts as a champion for change including developing creative solutions to simplify and streamline finance activities such as continuous reviews of accounting policies and procedures. Partners/collaborates with key stakeholders to develop solutions for better financial and strategic outcomes that align with the company’s overall strategic plan.
Assists with external audit activities including technical accounting work performed over new, complex transactions, new accounting standards or changes in existing policies.
Job Qualifications :
Education Requirement for All Levels
Bachelors degree with an emphasis in accounting, business or related area.
Experience Requirements - Senior Policy Accountant
5 years of accounting experience is required. In the absence of a bachelors degree, 9 years of related experience is required. CPA certification is preferred.
Experience Requirements - Lead Policy Accountant
8 years of accounting experience is required. In the absence of a bachelors degree, 12 years of related experience is required. CPA certification is preferred.
Preferred in-depth regulatory accounting experience including experience with utility industry and Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
Other Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements for All Levels
Demonstrated complex US GAAP skills required.
Demonstrated strong analytical and project management skills.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment.
Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
