As a Director of Gas Engineering, you will direct the preparation and development of long- and short-range plans to ensure the design of a safe, reliable, cost-effective natural gas delivery system that complies with federal, state and local codes, regulations, statutes and permitting requirements. To be successful in this role you will: Directs the development and implementation of design projects and practices, to provide for a safe, reliable cost-effective gas distribution system. Directs long range system planning to ensure adequate pipeline capacity is available for all CenterPoint Energy customers. Directs the development and implementation of plans to enhance customer satisfaction for CenterPoint Energy’s existing end-use gas customers, State, County and municipal public works staff, regulatory agency staff and all customers impacted by CenterPoint Energy’s construction and operating activities. Directs the development and monitoring of customer satisfaction measures to ensure that changes made to enhance customer satisfactions are true improvements. Directs and manages the development and implementation of annual and long-range departmental plans and productivity improvement strategies to ensure effective utilization of resources. Creates and environment for continuous improvement and, together with staff, identifies and implements new technologies and innovations that will significantly improve the cost effectiveness of the department. Develops and coaches the managerial and professional staff using competency-based performance standards. Ensures individual development plans encompass all core knowledge necessary for development of a High-Performance Culture. Recruits and hires staff using competency-based assessment tools to ensure complementary team building and to ensure staff displays a full range of customer, organizational and technical skills. Directs programs to assure the suitability of materials used in the construction of the gas delivery system. Directs programs to assure compliance of O&M manuals, welding manuals, emergency response materials, etc. Participates in the development of consistent policies for design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Gas Delivery System. Directs the development of strategic and annual capital budgets for the rehabilitation and reinforcement of the distribution system and manages annual capital expenditures for the natural gas distribution system.
Experience Required:
Education: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial or other approved engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. A Professional Engineering license is required. Experience: Requires a minimum of ten years in gas distribution design work or related experience and a minimum of five year of supervisory experience. Experience in a wide variety of engineering activities including project management and cost justification, technical problem analysis, product design, research, technical writing and systems development.
